Pintrest, by now you should know what it is, if you don’t well, read on. Pintrest is a virtual pinboard (yea like the in your kitchen wall), it allows people to collect and share their favorite photo’s. Users can create as many pin boards as they like, they can add their own images and they can also “like” or “re-pin” other users images.
So, with all the interest in pintrest I’ve finally got a few pin’s up, and have started to play – the easiest way to add an image to your pintrest account is to use the bookmarklet – drag it to your bookmark toolbar. When you are browsing just click the bookmarklet and pintrest does the rest for you, quite easy, still time consuming. After a few hours I already have a few things re-pinned (oh I could barley contain the excitement).
I can see the attraction, it gets quite addictive adding images, I certainly can see those of an addictive or obsessive personality letting this completely consume them. I can also see how I can use it as a tool. I’m going to start using it as my virtual scrapbook, its like bookmarks with images.
I have yet to explore the benefits of what it can bring companies but its not hard to see how this could be used for retail i.e. on person tags a dress, others re-pin and before you know it you have hundreds of people looking to buy that dress. Need to research what other things it can be used for.
How to join pintrest
You can join Pinterest by requesting an invite from someone already on the website (request an invite and I’ll send you one – use comment), or by clicking “Request an Invite” on the home page. It takes about a week to get your invite, so I suggest you do it now, so you can be more of a hipster than your co-workers.
